Transfer Successful

We’ve done it. Kris walked me through switching over to Movable Type and it was as successful as could be. Now I just have to sit down and decide what I really want it to look like and fix some of my archives.

If only he would take payment in sexual favors, we’d all be set. But I think I may just buy him dinner.

Stay tuned for a better look, searchable archives, and maybe even some features of my own. I refuse to be a carbon copy of all of you. 🙂 I AM a unique butterfly, dammit.

I mean, I AM a beautiful and unique snowflake….dammit (have to get the quote right).

Yeah, it was easy to justify installing MT to set up my photoblog, but now that it’s running, I’m kind of hesitant to move my word blog over to it. I’m worried that I won’t be able to duplicate the current look of the page in MT. And MT blogs all look so similar. Makes me wonder if it isn’t just really difficult to set up a template.

can we just stick with dinners for Kris Katie? I don’t think we should be opening the door on sexual favors. By the way, when we’re back in the office will you help me move to moveable type? I’m feeling a little left out. And I already owe Kris like, 9 dinners.

I wish somebody had told me about paying Kris back with dinners before I…..shudder. Never mind. I feel so cheap and used.

Are you still working on this or is this how it will look? It seems to be lacking color and pictures compared to your last one…but granted, I know nothing about the blog stuff.

It just dawned on me… It is June 21m the summer solstice, Harry Potter came out today and hundreds of thousands of people are simultaneously making their way through the 800+ page tome, meanwhile a small group of people working for the richest man in the world are making the move to MT to put their collective lives on the world wide web. Something is afoot…

  6. Kris says:

Aaron, you can easily duplicate your look. The reason many MT blogs look the same is because people go with the default templates and never change. However, that’ll soon change–at least amongst we trainers, as everyone will soon benefit from my class and learn the myriad wonders of CSS. Just fiddle and learn.

Alright, MAD (and Scott since he made the same statement to me on the phone) if you had really read my blog you would have realized my goal is to make this look great after I get the hang of CSS and MT. So, :P. That’s why I picked a plain sheet so I had a blank slate. But you just wait. I’ll do this thing up nice. 🙂

Shit, I need to just do the MT thing.. all the cool kids are doing it… how much does it cost again, KB?
KB is like the Mother Teresa for tech-challenged bloggers, but he’d look much better in that outfit than she did.

Looking better and better. Is MT free? If not, do pirates have to hired?

  11. KT says:

Bear with me. I’m working on as people are commenting. Trying out different colors.
    FAQ’s!!!
    MT IS FREE!!!!
SOON KB WILL NOT BE THE ONLY ONE ABLE TO HELP!!! YOU CAN ASK KT AS WELL!!!!

JP, you gotsta get a domain first. Peelio.com. That’s what youse should gets. $100/year for domain/hosting from IPowerWeb. Word. Me and Katie are CSSin’ it up tonight.

I think the site looks marvy, Katie! I’ve been wondering what a 3-column layout in MT would look like. I especially like the graphic in the upper left of the main page and the comments. Beautimous!

a few questions, a few suggestions. Perhaps you try and resize the calender so that the left and right column have the same width.
    Love the categories section.
I’d switch the ‘Recent Entries’ and ‘Archives’ round, but that’s purely my trivial opinion.
Is it possible to keep the left and right column fixed so that, when you scroll down, only the blog scrolls but not the left/right columns (cf. pane freezing in Excel).
Now my question – whom do you use as your web host? Right now I’m using blogger itself, but I’m having problems ftpeeing to it, so I’ll probably have to abuse their help files..oh well.
    Great work!

  15. KB says:

The only feasible way to make the main content scroll, but to keep the columns static would be to use an iframe for the content–but as we all know ANY frame is terrible for usability, and using them is a big fatty boom batty no-no for most web designers. Also, if these are fixed you miss the content below the bottom edge of your viewport.
