Milwaukee, WI
Last night David (from London), Steve, Jim, and I went to Jazz in the Park in Milwaukee. It was amazing. We had some wine, some beer, some sushi. Well, I had sushi and they had sandwiches. Then David and I walked around Milwaukee a bit while Steve and Jim went running. The fools. Apparently running after a few beers is the proper and only way to do it. If I had known this sooner I would have been running all along.
Here are some pics from my days here in Wisconsin so far.

Hey, those two babes have nice highlights!
Those are all great pictures! Now you can be a photographer on top of being a writer and tech trainer 🙂
My friend Natalie adores Milwaukee… What I find interesting about Milwaukee is that it’s the only major american city to have had three socialist mayors. (name that reference!!!) 🙂
Milwaukee is rad. I highly recommend it–if only for the Blatz beer. Oh wait, you’re here with me, Katie.
The reference to Milwaukee’s socialist mayors was made by none other than Alice Cooper in the movie version of Wayne’s World.
So, do I win a prize? I’ll take it in cash, please.
Being from Milwaukee I can assure you that yes indeed we did have three socialist mayors. from 1910-1912 Mayor Emil Seidl, from 1914-1938 Mayor Dan Hoan, (A bridge is named after him and took a long time to build), and finally Frank Zeidler from 1948-1960. The beginnings of Socialism can be traced to the Immigrants coming over from Germany and Poland forming Labor groups, such as the Knights of Labor and the Central Labor Union. These groups set the basis of the Socialist party in Milwaukee and the events of May 5th, 1886, sometimes called the Massacre at Bay View, further fueled their rise to power. But the most important reason for their rise was the Administration of Republican Mayor David Rose (1898-1906 and again 1908-1910). Under his leadership Milwaukee was driven into a corrupt system. Gambling was illegal in the State of Wisconsin, but under orders from Mayor Rose it was allowed and the Police were told to turn a blind eye to house activities. Riverside in Milwaukee had become a 19th century Las Vegas and the residents were fed up with open prostitution, gambling and the number of bars opening during his Administration. During the Elections of 1906 it came out that Rose was under Federal investigation and voters ousted him in favor of Sherburn Becker, who vowed to clean up Milwaukee but with little luck and in 1908 Rose was Re-elected. In 1910 Socialist Emil Seidl beat Rose in the Elections and set up the first Fire and Police Commission to oversee the Police Department and enforced the gambling codes shutting down the Casinos or sporting parlors as they were called. He also strictly set down regulations for the operation of taverns and put the prostitutes out of business. In 1912 he was defeated by republican Mayor Gerhard Bading who swiftly turned everything back to Mayor Rose’s day. So it was no wonder he was soundly beaten by Socialist Mayor Dan Hoan in 1914. Hoan was defeated in 1938 by Carl Zeidler, a democrat, who resigned his post in 1942 to join the Navy in WWII and was lost at sea off the west coast of Africa. His brother Frank, A socialist, gained the position in 1948 and held it until 1960.
Bitching and Crowing…and Snapping and Grinning
I must say that, after reading about all of Katie’s recent exploits, I am extremely jealous. I want to go back to flying around the country on Unkie Bill’s dime and meeting lots of interesting people! Instead, I’m sitting at…
